Even in DAI the only options for gay men are Bull and Dorian, one of which is yet another depraved bisexual and Dorian arguably gets the least satisfying ending to his romance in Trespasser. If you want to play a female Rook and do the same, there's Lucanis, Davrin, and Emerich.

If you want to play a male Rook and have a straight romance, there's Bellara, Neve, and Harding. It's been a decade both in real life and in-game and so if someone is coming into the series with this game, I think that makes sense for it to be a little more inviting and not entirely dependent on having played the previous games.
